homage to the elm trees

In autumn 2010, the City of Stockholm (Stockholm Konst) invited Lies-Marie to do the artistic design for Bandhageshemmet. Bandhageshemmet is an institution for homeless people in southern Stockholm. Lies-Marie worked especially with the artistic design for the lunch-hall, the entrance and the garden. All three parts of the design are called »wooden places o1-o3«.

»When I visited the institution for homeless people in Bandhagen for the first time, I was impressed by the honesty and kindness of the people living there. One of the persons I have met is Anders. In the middle of our conversation he started to synchronise Elvis Presley in a very good way. He told me he listened to Elvis so often, it already went into his subconscious.

His subconscious is so intense, he said, that in the painting classes at the institution, he paints more colourful in autumn than in wintertime, for example. He doesn´t really think about it. His subconscious realises the colourfulness in nature during autumn and he carries it over into his paintings.

Carry over nature into our lives! This it is what makes me pick my ears up. I think, when we look around us we are searching for things we can comprehend and understand, and are taking it in our subconscious. Just like Anders does with the colourful autumn. In other words, it's all about sensing our surroundings in order to let the surrounding effect us.

I liked to create a surrounding at Bandhagenshemmet which affects people working and living there in a positive way, as well subconsciously.«
